Womans_day_2_e August 9th is National Woman's Day in South Africa. In memory of a famous march by women against the pass book law, it is a day where we get to celebrate womanhood and ensuring that women have a voice in society where once they may have been silent.

I was lucky enough to take part in 2 awesome events to celebrate the day...

The first was a concert at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheater, where my band and I got to entertain a huge crowd with my songs as well as give away 2 INTEC Bursaries valued at R5000 each and some great goodie bags from Accessorize & La Senza! The crowd loved us and were up and bopping and hugely excited to try & win the awesome prizes. I was also fortunate enough to be dressed for the day by a fab boutique called COPA in Cape Town & had my new stylist Tanya Suskind do my hair and make up stunningly!

I loved being able to share my message of woman empowerment and the right we have to live our dreams and shine with a totally new audience. My band absolutely rocked with a very strong African flavour starting to come through in my songs and I was really present to the miracle that musicians get to create on stage when they connect with each other and the music. We sold quite a few Future Albums after the show and I was left really buzzing!

After finishing at the Waterfront I had to race to the Artscape Theatre where I was going to MC the album launch of local jazz diva Melanie Scholtz's debut album Zillion Miles. Melanie is an unbelievable singer and songwriter and her 8 piece band blew the audience away with her thought provoking and unforgettable songs! I loved being able to celebrate a fellow female South African artist at the end of Woman's Day and salute her journey. Check out her website www.melaniescholtz.com and if you are in SA be sure to get your hands on a copy of Zillion Miles - you wont regret it!

All in all - Woman's Day was a huge success for me & I look forward to continuing my journey as an empowered South African woman who is not afraid to stand up and raise her voice to make a difference in this beautiful country!
