It just keeps getting better!

The days are getting longer - with 7am starts and 10pm finishes that lead to very busy dreams of what still needs to be done on each song. I am completely immersed in this experience and yesterday was one of my best days yet just listening to each song take shape and being totally inspired to keep on refining things as we go along. At one point in the afternoon I had a wash of thrilling gratitude pour over me as yet again I realised that I am actually in studio and recording my dream album. Everything I have imagined is coming to be and most importantly I am having the time to give every part of the album the attention it deserves. Paul is proving to be such a creative blessing on this journey and I can't wait to see what today holds!

It started with a dream...

I found this clip the other day and realised that it is the first footage of me talking about my crazy idea to sell an album before recording it over two years ago. As I sit here actually in the recording studio because over 1500 people have already bought future copies, I am in awe of the power of intention to make things happen. I am so glad I gave this idea a whirl and that I am now reaping the fruits of all my hard work, big dreaming and incredible support from around the world! Bring on the next adventure...

Companions on my journey...

In the twelve years that I have been writing songs, and in the five years since I plucked up the courage to give up my day job and see if I could make a career from my songs and voice, I have come across some incredible musicians, producers and mentors.  Every person I have crossed paths with has coloured my experience in different ways and who I am today as a musician is the result of all of them.

When  I put out to my Future Owners a few weeks ago to vote for which of my songs I should record, I handed over the fate of this album to the people who have helped me to create it. Amazingly, the twelve songs that were voted in manage to span my entire history of song writing as well as the various people who have walked this journey with me.

The album will have Wherever Love Goes & Perfect produced by Theo Crous in 2004, a version of Raise based on Bruce Muzik's demo he did with me back in 2001, a version of Don't Look Back that Tom Fox did for me in 2003 along with the rest of the album being produced by Paul McIver and Brian O'Shea. Theo's singles feature some of my favourite musicians from my gigs - Gorm Helfjord, Rob Nel, Mike Horne, Clive Pringle and Dominic Peters - and I am so glad to have them making it onto the album along with my current band members Tony Paco, Helder Gonzaga and Nelson Malela.

From Wherever Love Goes written in August 1996 to Afraid written in August 2007, every song reflects almost everyone I have worked and every defining moment in my life - all of which has added infinitely to who I am. I can't wait to hear it when it is all done!

Cape Town Recording all done...

A week ago we started finally recording the album at Paris Studios in Fishhoek. It was an intense and exciting week - straight through from Monday to Sunday - but we made it through with lots of laughter, delicious lunches and magic music making. I am off to Joburg for all of October to record vocals and guitars and then mix and master everything. Here are some pics that capture the process so far...
