Feather Awards...

I am speaking and singing at The Feather Awards tonight at The Venue in Melrose Arch and am super excited. This awards ceremony is celebrating extraordinary women in South Africa and I feel very priviledged to have been asked to share my story of creating 'journey' with my fans and also to have 'Angel' as the theme song for the evening! Hip Hop have once again pulled out all the stops & I have two of their spectacular dresses to wear. The dresses of very proudly South African so I promise to post pics asap! It is incredible to look back at the road I have walked the last few years and realise that all the risks & crazy ventures have truly paid off and made a fantastic music & speaking career possible for me. I am so grateful that everything I have learned along the way means that I have a story worth sharing and that hopefully gives my songs added relevance to thinking big and giving yourself permission to follow crazy juicy dreams! Here's to spreading wings & soaring!

T-Shirts... an idea is brewing

When I was MC'ing the Twestival back in Feb, one of the prizes was a t-shirt from Springleap. I was intrigued by their online business model that involves hundreds of young designers submitting t-shirt designs weekly that are then voted for by the public, and the winning design is printed and sold off the website. It is all about crowd-sourcing & asking the market to create the product they want to see - just up my street!

So - I was stoked when my ticket number was drawn and I won my own Springleap t-shirt! A few weeks ago I headed off to their headquarters and met with the masterminds behind the company - Eric & Eran. We had lots of fun picking out t-shirts and after trying on too many to mention, I finally settled on a design called "Tree Whisperer" that I love!

Needless to say our thinking hats went on and we are brainstorming ways to run a "Verity T-Shirt" competition where designers can submit ideas that represent the 'journey', then YOU get to vote on your favourite & have the winning design available for fans & friends to order & enjoy.

New beginning...

Sun rises burns a trail through the sky.  Morning opens her eyes and smiles. Birds ruffle their feathers – tune their voices together. Somewhere this wakes someone – a new day is begun.  People rush, in a hurry to get where they’re going. Lover’s touch their last embrace until evening. Children dream, imaging a day where they can be anything. And I feel like today’s the day I’ll really start living…

Everywhere there’s the smell of lives ripe with potential.  Somewhere the choice is made to see the glass as half full. Possibly two strangers meet and they don’t look away. Definitely a few more people should find love today.  Clouds appear to dance like cotton wool across the sky. Breezes play with skirts while children chase butterflies. A wind of change is blowing through hardened hearts. Everywhere people choose to laugh instead of shout ...

Let the sun rise up and fill my coffee cup with gladness. Let birds sing of things that move me to madness.  Let the day awake, let us make – a new beginning. Let us take the chance to live like we’re winning.

Cape Farmhouse - Unplugged next Thurs 19th March

After a few months of dealing with shipping 2000 copies of "Journey" to people around the world, the band & I are finally ready to get back into the swing of things and start performing again! I have done my fair share of speaking appearances around the country where I invariably sing a song or two, but it has been a while since we all got into the rehearsal room & worked on our old songs & some new material as well.

So you can imagine that I am really looking forward to our show next week out at the Cape Farm House in Scarborough. We will be playing two acoustic sets featuring songs from the album as well as a few old favourites and some new songs I have been working on - yes, the creative juices have been flowing again and album #2 is definitely in the pipelines!

It promises to be an intimate evening where friends can enjoy light meals, good wine & lots of song! If the weather is balmy we will play outside at sunset & into the moonlight, but if not they have a cosy indoor section where we can all snuggle in and keep warm. Either way I think it will be worth the drive & look forward to seeing lots of familiar faces there enjoying the evening with us.

The show starts at 7pm but to make the most of it you can arrive anytime from 6pm. Tickets are R60 - singing along, smiling & tapping your feet is guaranteed.

Fine Line...

There’s a fine line between love and hate, a very fine line between chance and fate. There’s fine line between smiling and crying, a very fine line between living and dying. The boundaries aren’t clear between good and bad, there’s no clear sign when to be happy or sad. The walls don’t stand tall between finish and start, there’s no sure way to tell together from apart.

There’s a fine line between wrong and right, a very fine line between day and night. There’s fine line between swim or sink, a very fine line between what we say and think. The boundaries aren’t clear between early and late, there’s no clear sign when to give or take. The walls don’t stand tall between maybe and never, there’s no sure way to tell now from forever.

So here we are in the twilight zone, somewhere between nowhere and home. Here we are in the dusk,  Between what we want to do and what we must – there’s a very fine line…  So here we are in no-man’s land, Nothing is promised from where we stand. Nothing is forever where nothing is defined, between where we are and out there – there’s a very fine line…

LITTLE BIT OF PEACE

Man opens the door to his car, lifts out a sleeping child. Head resting on daddy’s shoulder the little girl is quite.  Street light like a Van Gogh painting sheds them in an unreal light, and I drive by and watch that perfect sight.

Woman standing at a lighted window rocks her baby to sleep. Sweet voice like a heavenly angel prays to god her soul to keep. Curtains move like a stage opening, revealing their little scene, and I walk by an observer of that dream.

Old man a prisoner of age, sits huddled on a street corner, zmall child smiles sweetly at him, hand stretched out gives him a quarter. That gesture like a breath of springtime brings a smile to his wrinkled face, and I the fly pass by and am touched by that grace.

And I am thankful for it, yes I am thankful for it.
I am thankful for this little bit of peace that god is showing to me.

   

Everywhere, peace seems to be in pieces, but now and then, these little things remind me.
    That love goes, wherever it is planted. And God shows, that compassion is the answer.
