I have treated myself to a lazy day as I contemplate my birthday tomorrow and the 14th anniversary of writing my first song on Noordhoek beach. The unexpected gift of songwriting has taken me on an incredible journey so far - here's a little slice:
- Studying psychology and out of nowhere feeling inspired to write lyrics and watching my life change course completely
- Digging very deep to find the courage to sing my songs to anyone and then taking the risk of paying for recording my first demo
- Going to America and entering singing competitions having never really performed & being awarded a US work visa as a foreign artist of extraordinary ability
- Coming home and putting together my first band and then making a career out of acting to pay for my musical dream
- Being crazy enough to start a project selling an album that didnt exist
- Heading off to Nashville by myself to play songwriter's nights & be immersed in Music City
- Coming home and making sure my Lucky Packet Project worked & getting to make a difference for charities I really believe in.
- Somewhere in the process becoming an inspirational speaker and getting to travel the country speaking to thousands of people about possibility and innovation
- Having 2000 incredible people buy an album I hadn't even recorded and going into studio with my band and and amazing producer and watching my dream unfold before me
- Releasing Journey and posting 2000 copies to 25 countries around the world and then hearing my first single 'Angel' on radio for the first time.
- Getting hundreds of pictures from future owners holding their album and then walking into music stores to see my album on the shelves was the proof that I had actually done it!
- Being featured on Carte Blanche and now on Journey to the Core and being priviledged enough to have my story shared with South Africa and hopefully inspire others about what might be possible for them
Wow! All I can say is thank you to life, to my incredible family and friends and to all the fans who have made this journey possible so far. Can't wait to see what the next year brings!
