Thought for the week...

If we could just remember that life is a symphony and each of us plays our part. Some lead the tune, while others keep the time or lend their voices to the harmony. It helps to remember that an orchestra is made up of its many players and each counts in weaving the melody and telling the story with many voices.

Another great week!

I am just home from an amazing 3 hours rehearsal with the guys - officially known now as "TheShades". We were joined again by a very talented young guitarist - Aldert Du Toit - who is trying his hand at the songs and seeing how it goes. So far so good (very good in fact)! It is awesome to hear the tunes with guitar back in them and we had a very productive afternoon working on some old favourites and also shaping the new songs "One Of These Days" and "Find My Heart" into seriously rocking tunes.

It feels like we have found our groove and are definitely ready for big concerts with a good hours worth of "get up and shake what you mamma gave you" songs! After Sunday's success with the crowd at On Broadway we are also keen to get into studio and start recording the new material - especially "You You You" that seems to be an instant hit with audiences.

All in all another productive and inspiring week with lots of look forward to and lots of legwork still to do in this journey of sharing our music with the world. I can't wait!

For my father...

Today would have been my fathers' 81st birthday. I woke up with a heavy heart this morning and have just realised why. It is amazing how we adjust to someone being gone from our lives when enough time passes, but on days like to today I find myself missing him with all my heart. It is hard not to wonder what the last 10 years would have been like had he been here. There is so much I would have loved to share with him, yet ironically alot of what I achieved is because of how much I grew through the experience of losing him and realising that life is too short not to make the most of it.

Happy Birthday Dad. I love and miss you so much!

What a great night!

I am only now starting to recover from our show at On Broadway last night! We played to a full house, had audience members from Cameroon & Kinshasa join us on stage to show off some serious African dancing and ended with a standing ovation & an encore that went on and on! It was one of those rare evenings where the band and the audience melded into one and the energy in the room was electric!

It was a priviledge to play to people from across the continent and to have them singing & dancing with us right till the end. "You! You! You!" was the firm favourite of the evening and by the end of the song the audience took over chanting it from us with Tony keeping them going with a solid thumping floor drum. It was unbelievable! When we finally got back stage I was drenched from two hours of singing and dancing on stage, so am determined to start actually going to gym this week!

We ran out of albums to sell after the show and quite a few copies are going to be winging their way to various African countries from a table of 22 delegates who are here on a workshop. If last night is anything to go by the band is getting ready to take SA & even Africa by storm. It is incredible to see how people react to the songs and how they love Nelson, Tony and Helder and go ballistic every time they take a solo. We have decided that the guys band name is The Shades, so keep your eyes peeled for Verity &TheShades next show. We can't wait!!!

Thought for the week...

The baby steps in the beginning of a journey, always seem inadequate compared to the brilliance of the dream that inspired them. This is natural. If the dream wasn't so far "out there" and dazzling, it wouldn't be worth dreaming! Just don't be led to think that the physical ground you cover with your baby steps is all that they accomplish. Because for every mortal step you take, another cog in a giant wheel behind the curtains of time and space advances, and with it, 10,000 new possibilities.
