There's something incredibly rewarding about hearing a song come together in studio. Especially when the song is 7 months overdue in fulfilling a young girls dream!
In January I received the following email from Reach For A Dream. "I know it’s not so long ago that you assisted Lize and no doubt you have plenty of concerts and events happening. Is there any way that you and Selwyn would be able to assist us a second time around? Anle is at the Paarl school in Brackenfell. What a lovely outspoken little girl! She turned 10 on the 3rd of January. She is in a wheelchair and can’t speak very clearly, but has the world’s confidence. She just loves Hanna Montana and her music. Without me asking, she started to shake her little body and started singing. No need to ask, her dream is to become a singer one day. She wants her own CD’s and her picture on the cover."
Needless to say I said yes and went to meet Anle and her mum and find out a little more about her. It turns out she loves painting and animals and time with her family at the beach is where she is happiest. It gave me enough to start writing her song called 'My Favourite Things' and over a few days the song started to take shape.
Very soon after however my family was reeling in the pain of my Mum's passing and somehow the year started slipping away from me and Anle's dream was put on ice. Coming out the other side of grieving my beautiful mother and the mayhem of the world cup, Selwyn Shandel and I finally managed to meet last week to arrange & record the song so that Anle and her family could start learning it to sing together. Selwyn is an extraordinary producer and person. The fact that he so willingly donates his studio, time and talent to these projects really speaks for itself!
We spent a morning fleshing out the song from my basic piano version into a great upbeat number that will hopefully live up to Anle's Hannah Montana dream when she gets her day in the studio to record it!
Will keep you posted with how it goes and definitely share the video when it's all done!
